Since 2005, Cameel Halim has been the owner and managing member or CH Ventures, LLC, based in Wilmette, Illinois. Cameel Halim owns and manages various properties in and around Chicago, including one he bought in the 1980s on Kenmore Avenue in the Edgewater neighborhood.

For a long time, Edgewater was considered a no-go for property developers. Aside from security issues, real estate investors were concerned by the run-down condition of the neighborhood’s common-corridor-style apartment buildings. These structures have small apartments which open to a single corridor. However, interested members of the Edgewater Community Council worked diligently to encourage restoration of the neighborhood.

Inspired by the work going on and the new interest, Halim acquired one of the properties in the area and rehabilitated it, staying as close as possible to its original design. The building’s woodwork, parquet floors, and landscaping were restored. while the bathroom fixtures remained. After the extensive rehabilitation, the building achieved full occupancy.
